Third AttractorBetter judgment. Greater capacity to act.Capital in service to life
01The problem

More information.Not necessarily better decisions.

Families do not lack information. They can reach almost unlimited research, managers, founders, advisers and opportunities.

What matters? What is true? What fits this family? What deserves action? And who should be involved?

The problem is not access. It is judgment.

Third Attractor sitsbetween knowing and doing.

Third Attractor is what happensbetween knowing and doing.

We make a family better at deciding what to do with its money, who it backs, and what it lends its name to. That is the whole job.

What this is

A decision capability for families navigating capital, transition and responsibility.

And what it is not
Not a fund.Not a network.Not a retreat series.Not a software company.Not another family-office advisory.
03The system

See clearly. Decide well.Act intentionally.

Six stages. Each one feeds the next, and the last one feeds the first.

04The map

Protect. Bridge.Become.

One map, used everywhere on this page. It describes the world; capital is only the set of instruments for acting on it.

Protect

What life already depends on.

  • Water
  • Food
  • Energy
  • Ecosystems
  • Communities
  • Institutions
Bridge

What is trying to emerge, and needs help to become viable.

  • Infrastructure
  • Regenerative agriculture
  • Health
  • Education
  • New economic models
Become

What we may need to create, and does not exist yet.

  • Science
  • Human-centred technology
  • New institutions
  • Coordination
  • Culture

The same dollar should not be asked to do every job.

A return-seeking investment, catalytic first-loss capital, a family's influence and a philanthropic gift are different tools. Deciding which one the work actually needs is most of the job.

This monthWhat Matters Now
What changed

Data-centre load growth has moved from a utility planning footnote to a constraint on national energy strategy. Interconnection queues, not chips, increasingly set the pace.

Why it matters

Power is becoming the scarce input to the fastest-compounding industry of the decade. That repricing reaches generation, transmission, land, cooling, and the companies that make any of it faster.

What we believe

The bottleneck persists longer than consensus expects, because grid build is a permitting and supply-chain problem rather than a capital problem.

What we don't know

Whether efficiency gains at the model layer blunt demand growth, and how regulators allocate the cost of new capacity between ratepayers and operators.

What could be actionable

Queue-position software, long-lead equipment, and land with interconnection already granted. One deep dive is live; one opportunity is in front of you.

Why you are seeing this

You asked to be positioned inside the energy transition rather than exposed to it.

Illustrative only. A real briefing would use current research, evidence and the family's stated priorities.

06Intelligence

From theme todecision-grade intelligence.

Sensemaking answers what matters. Intelligence maps what we know, what we believe and what deserves further work.

Deep diveAI × Energy

An abridged worked example, drawn from public sources. A real deep dive runs longer and names each document.

  • 01Interconnection queues in three major markets now exceed four years.
  • 02Two hyperscalers signed direct nuclear offtake inside twelve months.
  • 03Transformer and turbine lead times have not recovered.

The question

What, if anything, should this family do about it?

08Act

Less deal flow.Better decisions.

The family does not need another marketplace. It needs a reason why an opportunity deserves attention.

You do not need more opportunities.

You need a reason something deserves your attention.

09The standard

A worldview is not evidence.

We should be ableto be wrong.

A beautiful thesis that cannot be disproved is not intelligence. So before a significant decision, we write five things down — and then we keep the record.

01

What would have to be true?

Stated before capital moves, in writing, in language specific enough to be wrong.

02

What counts as evidence?

Named at the start — the measurement, the source, the time horizon — so the goalposts cannot move later.

03

Who verifies it?

Not us alone. Independent and place-based researchers, and the people living with the outcome.

04

Whose intelligence counts?

The community closest to the work is a source, not a stakeholder to be consulted afterwards.

05

What would change our mind?

Written down while we still believe it, which is the only time the answer is honest.

The evidence standard
  • If a claim cannot be checked, we do not make it.
  • If the evidence is not there yet, the status is Uncertain and it stays Uncertain.
  • If the outcome on the ground contradicts the thesis, the thesis is wrong — not the ground.
10The whitepaper
Whitepaper

The AI bubbleand the alternatives.

The sharpest live test of everything above: an asset class moving faster than most allocations can reason about, and the question of what else deserves the capital.

Read the whitepaperOpens in DocSend in a new tab
What it asks
  • What would have to be true for current AI valuations to hold?
  • What breaks first if they do not?
  • Where is the same decade of change showing up, less crowded?
  • What a family can do before the answer is obvious.
11The way in

Start withone real engagement.

The first product

A 90-day intelligence and action engagement

Long enough to work on real decisions. Short enough to judge us by the result.

What the family receives
01Capital Compass

What matters to the family, what is in scope and what is not.

02What Matters Now

A filtered view of the changes most relevant to those priorities.

03Deep Dive

One or two questions investigated deeply enough to support a decision.

04Opportunity Filter

A small number of opportunities with a reason each deserves attention.

05Decision Support

Evidence, alternatives, risks, unknowns and a documented next step.

06Learning Review

What happened, what changed and what should happen next.

How the 90 days run
Weeks 1–2Listen

The family, the advisers if useful, the portfolio as it is. What you care about, what you fear, what you want to understand.

Weeks 3–4Orient

The Capital Compass: five priorities, the constraints, the contradictions, the open questions, and what is explicitly out of scope.

Month 2Intelligence

What Matters Now, then one or two topics taken deep with the domain experts who actually hold the answer. Not a generic briefing.

Months 2–3Act

Source, filter hard, diligence two or three. Explore, Watch or Decline — then implement one real action if one deserves it.

Month 3Learn

What did you think at the start, what changed, what did you act on, was this useful, and what should happen next.

The alignment

The family pays Third Attractor for intelligence, judgment and coordination.

Our default model does not depend on a transaction happening. We do not need an investment to close for the work to have been useful.

Fixed-fee 90-day engagement. Terms agreed before work begins.

At day 90

Did we help the family see something earlier, understand something better, or make a better decision? If yes, we decide together whether the relationship should continue. If not, it should not.

12Fit

When this is useful. And when it is not.

Third Attractor is especially useful when
  • The world is changing faster than your existing allocation.
  • The family holds competing views about what matters.
  • A major decision crosses investment, philanthropy and operating boundaries.
  • You keep seeing opportunities but lack conviction.
  • You suspect a transition will matter but do not know how to engage.
  • You need to understand something before you need to invest in it.
  • You want capital and values to coexist without confusing one for the other.
It may not be useful if
  • You primarily need manager selection, asset allocation or outsourced CIO services.
  • You are looking for high-volume proprietary deal flow.
  • You want every engagement to lead to an investment.
  • You want advice without involving the family in defining what matters.

If the second list describes you better than the first, there are firms that do that work well, and we are glad to say so.

13The point

The goal is not simply to preserve wealth. It is to increase what wealth can do.

Protect.Build.Invest.Catalyse.Give.Connect.Steward.

Capital is one form of agency.

14Capital in practice

Let the work tell uswhat it needs.

The intended outcome comes first. The capital structure follows.

Invest

Credible revenues and risk-adjusted return support the purpose.

Patient capital

Longer time horizons or flexible economics better fit the work.

Catalyse

Flexible or risk-tolerant capital can unlock work that otherwise stalls.

Give

Public-benefit work does not need to produce a financial return.

Introduce

A relationship, expert or partner may be more valuable than money.

Contribute

Time, expertise, land, distribution or other resources can matter.

Principle

Do not force important work into an investment model simply because investment capital is available.

15Access

The right person, when the question is theirs.

Expertise is pulled in around the decision, not retained in advance.

When a question requires a grid operator, scientist, allocator, indigenous leader, founder, regulator or local practitioner, we find the people closest to it.

In time, families who want to share intelligence with each other will be able to. That is worth building. It is not yet worth claiming.

We do not know exactly how this century will unfold. But uncertainty does not remove responsibility.
